Monsoon Outing to Shivapuri Retreat

P.C. Abhishek Humagain

Realizing that just sitting in front of the computer every day for hours was not just making us lazy and unhealthy but also keeping us away from the beauty and thrill of nature. We team of 13 people from Blue Panda Communications, started our ride from Kathmandu to Shivpuri Retreat. Route was good enough even for the scooters. We were leaving the crowded city behind and riding uphill. Route was quite easy for us as we were all full of energy and excitement. We snapped some pictures, RELAXed and Enjoyed the tranquil village setting, the lush gardens and the incredible views over the valley created lots of good memories on the lap of Shivapuri Hill.

Shivapuri Retreat is a lovely escape into nature from Kathmandu City; it is located at Dadagaun, just 4.5km uphill from ‘Budhanilkantha’ School on the way to ‘Army Command & Staff ‘ College. They provide good accommodation and serve delicious food. We are served with fruits & vegetables grown in and around their premises. We were happy to eat ‘Naspati’ and Cucumber directly from garden.

As we were exploring the area, we decided to climb up and visit Bishnudwar which is supposed to 45 minutes hike according to locals. But from there we walked for more than an hour and we were still somewhere half way, walking in heavy rain. But due to monsoon and time limit most of us retuned from half way and 2-friends went to the destination, later we saw their pictures, place is amazing. I came back with the leach bite through rainforest and jungle environments.

We were so hungry, ordered snacks and enjoyed light snacks with BBQ along with the gorgeous view with some more photo sessions. Interesting chit chat made us forget about the time and it was already dinner time.

After having dinner, we planned to play Dumb Charades but friends were so busy on talking and sharing their experiences, so we decided to go the balcony of our room watched the lights of Kathmandu from there which is breathtaking. After sitting there for about an hour, we played UNO cards till midnight and went to bed.

In the morning around 9 AM, we had our breakfast and after that we did quick visit of garden as there is lots of KIWI and pears. We ate fresh fruit directly from tree and collected some of them. We departed from there around 11 AM, overall outing experience was good..
