Women in Lead

Women are gradually making their leadership position in education, science and technologies. At regional, national and global levels women are now breaking traditional barrier with their knowledge and intelligence. My latest talk in “Agile Professional Meetup” is based on the women’s empowerment, and mainly focused on Why we are lagging, what are the areas we need to work on and how to achieve what we want in our career as a professional.

What Makes Women Great Leader?

A leader is the one who influences and encourages a group of people to influence others and work towards the realizing and accomplishing goals for the betterment. Women leaders are more transformation than men leaders, they care, inspire team and spend a lot of their time on coaching, mentoring. Another most important feature that women have is they always focused on delivering the task assigned within deadline. Women are great leaders because they can balance professional and personal life and skills. Most women are naturally sensitive, and they value relationship that drives to and motivate others. Women listen and take time to react on that. They can handle situations at home or companies with patience. Wearing many hats comes with women naturally.

Challenges

One of the most challenging condition for female leader is that they are facing equality in the workforce. They start to think low, rate low to themselves and it’s hard to get support from other women. Confidence is also one of the biggest challenges, an advice is that be confident, do whatever is needed to achieve your goal like trainings, Hone the skills necessary to give you those opportunities, such as your communication skills, leadership development, and emotional intelligence. Speak confidently and raise your hand in meetings. Speak up and be heard. Another challenge for female leader is being afraid to ask, negotiation. Bargaining is in the nature of women, she negotiates a lot during shopping but when it comes to professional career, their reviews, new opportunities they remain inactive. Some women shy and hesitate to share or to speak on their achievements and success.

Statistics

Starting from the school college to university percentage of women those were getting higher degree education decreases. And when we investigate the IT industry only 25% of them are women. Today, only 5.2% women are in CEO roles at Fortune 500 companies. Fewer than 5% startups are owned by women and female Entrepreneur begin with around 1/8 of funding of male ventures. But the statistics shows that women operated companies have 12% higher revenues because of their dedication and passion towards work.

Women are not making it to the top of any profession anywhere in the world. Although we have female president in Nepal but there are no any achievements in the areas of women’s participation in top profession. I would say the reason must be the society, how we were raised, the man of the house must be successful and should be in greater position to earn more.
