Spiral Nepal is a group of active women agilest which focuses on career development and women’s empowerment. Spiral Nepal is based on the Lean in Agile (LIA) concept. Spirals differ from regular Agile meet-ups and other groups in a way that there are not simply a standalone or isolated monthly meeting but instead serve as a catalyst and a medium for sustainable community engagement. Many women across the Agile world are Finding a new path or method, realizing dreams and accomplishing great things, but most of them have had to do so on their own. How could it be if these women didn’t have it struggle all by themselves? Spirals are geographically in different location and each consists of a group of women Agilest who support each other in learning and growing towards their goals. In spiral we all women can share our experience along with our expertise so that we can share and learn from others too.
I am the enabler/ Catalyst for now for Spiral in Kathmandu city as we named it ‘Spiral Nepal’. Along with me we are few numbers of women who are active members of a group and anyone can be the catalyst too, who wish to serve for community events and other preparations. Spiral as a group of self-organizing and self-managing peoples. The format of the Spiral is to exchange of knowledge and support. Each woman offers what she can, and each woman seeks what she needs. We provide an offer and seek model for this approach and along with different formats of gathering, meetups and networking. I would like to say this community is the path to embrace presence in the Regional and National Seminars & Events, Opportunity to network, share experiences and develop business and personal relationships, participate in other social events.
1st Meetup of Spiral Nepal
Before actual event starts, we prepared ourselves many times but all times it seems we were not able to make it happen. Finally, for 24thfeb 2019 we were excited to do first meetup for leaninagile-SpiralNepal, although many members seem to be interested in spiral but when actual event happens it was disappointment for us in terms of number of participations. But the less participation doesn’t affect the overall event, it was blast. I was able to manage the place, tea/coffee and cookies at my office, thanks to management of Cotiviti Nepal. we went through speakers, and lots of conversation, sharing sessions. During the event better than ever bond builds between us. Most of the women were never been in such events before. We have 3-speakers for the first meetup. Event was planned for 2 hour and pattern is purely based on offer and seek model.
I started myself the formal event from the introduction of Spiral Nepal, what is our vision and mission. And then why should you join the Spirals. Then Introduction session started: Each participant shares “Who am I ?” – their personal story in few words followed by their professional identity. We tried to connect as women first, then as professionals. Second talk followed by Unisha Joshi, she shared more on Spirals, its needs, opportunities, personal growth and benefits of being participated and many more. Then another interactive session of sharing the offer and seek of individual started. Which was amazing, we never tried such thing before. We prepared a format for offer and seek template, all participants asked to fill the form. We collected forms and discussed one by one, most of the participants get their mentor for the knowledge they were seeking all this time, which was happy moment for all of us 😊. After official end of talking and sharing we had a tea coffee networking session and at the end of event we did the retrospective as well, we planned for the next event and called the interested speaker.

2nd Meetup of Spiral Nepal
For the 2nd meetup we learned from past mistakes as there is many areas we have to improve, we tried to maintain the separate email, Facebook page for spiral Nepal. Event is created in Facebook earlier than previous so that more people get to know. This time we have quite happy number of participants too. We had 3- keynote speaker and we followed the offer & seek of the pattern as we did in first meetup. Sumira Shrestha, Sushama Karki and Unisha Joshi shared valuable experience. We are planning our next meetup for June, stay tuned for more detail.
